Operator licensing switches to online from August 2022

From 1 August 2022 paper applications will no longer be accepted for new licences, and major changes to existing licences.

Many paper applications are on old outdated forms that cause delays to the processing, an online account to access the VOL will need to be set up before making an application at http://www.vehicle-operator-licensing.service.gov.uk/.  In the UK there are approximately 82,000 )-licence holders with 94% making major applications via the online VOL system.

The system has been developed to facilitate applications for licences, major changes, renewal, and if necessary the surrender of a licence, on line.  Applications can now also be checked to assist in getting  them through first time.  This means the case workers can deal with applications quickly to get operators on the road faster.

The overall aim is to reduce processing times and to move other licensing services online, but there will continue to be assistance for those who are unable to access the online services.
