DVSA reminder to correctly load heavy goods vehicles for annual test

15 Jun 2022

Why it’s important to make sure heavy goods vehicles are correctly laden for annual test (MOT)

Testing a vehicle’s braking performance is a really important part of the annual test. So, DVSA are reminding all operators to bring their vehicles to test with a load.

To carry out the brake test effectively, you should load your vehicle to 65% of its design axle weight.

You can supply the load yourself or the Authorised Testing Facility (ATF) may be able to supply ballast for you. There may be a charge for this, so it is best to check with the ATF first.

DVSA are working with the Traffic Commissioners to highlight the importance of laden brake testing, and we’ll share a blog post from them about this in the next few months.
