DVLA have published a consultation document for public feedback regarding amending the Road Traffic Act 1988 to allow registered healthcare professionals to complete DVLA medical questionnaires.  The consultation closes on 6^th December 2021.

DVLA received 603,000 medical notifications and applications in 2021-22 and this is likely to grow every year.

To reduce the burden on NHS doctors and improve turnaround times the DVLA is exploring a change to primary legislation to widen the scope of registered healthcare professionals who can provide information to them, i.e. to include specialist nurses.  In many practices the healthcare services may be led by specialist health care professionals who are not doctors who may well be better placed to provide the information required.
