Driver CPC changes - consultation

Consultation on proposed changes to Driver CPC

Views are being sought on proposed changes to the DCPC, creating 2 parallel qualifications in GB, and NI if agreed by their authorities.

A national qualification, N-DCPC, which is where the consultation is directed at and an international, I-DCPC, already regulated and within the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) between UK and the EU.

Both qualifications will permit national journeys, but the international qualification will b permit driving to and from or within the EU.

Proposals include reforming training to allow for shorter course modules and an alternative method for maintaining or regaining the DCPC, such as a test instead of completing training.  Successful completion of either route would enable the driver to drive for 5 years.

If the options are taken forwards it will mean drivers driving within RB and NI could have 3 ways to periodically renew the DCPC:

  • I-DCPC training
  • N-DCPC reformed training
  • N-DCPC periodic training

Reforms to training will allow drivers more flexibility in course durations.

Responses to the consultation, which closes on 27th April 2023 are online, via response form, email or in writing to Minster House at the address at end of the document found at the link.
