M20 traffic management to Dover and Eurotunnel

 

New traffic flow measures will be in place at the end of the EU Transition period to manage congestion on Kent’s road network in the event of severed disruption to services across the English Channel.

 

These measures are Known as Operation Brock, and will apply to HGVs over 7.5 tonnes in the event of severe disruption to services across the Channel.

 

Planning ahead for your journey will be necessary to reduce the risk of exceeding drivers’ hour’s limits.  It may be prudent to be aware of locations where breaks and rest can be taken and to plan to take these before entering Kent.  Making sure plenty of food and water is carried is important too.

 

A check will need to be made to ensure the HGV is ready to cross the border, using the Check and HGV Service to:

 

•         get a Kent Access Permit – even if your vehicle is empty and you intend to                cross the border

•         check you have the right EU import and commodities documents for the                    goods you are carrying.

 

Fines of £300 can be issued if the service is not used or a fraudulent declaration is made.

 

Hauliers making domestic journeys or travelling within Kent will not require a Kent Access Permit.
