Bus Recovery Grant: In-Year Uplift and Future Funding
The DfT has written to operators regarding the Bus Recovery Grant (BRG) scheme, to provide an update.
In-year BRG uplift
The Department has confirmed it will provide an additional £29M in BRG funding to support commercial operators and Local Transport Authorities (LTAs) this financial year. This is in addition to the £226.5m already agreed.
£26m of the additional funding will be allocated to operators using the same ‘core share’ as was used at the start of the scheme and will be equal to a normal period payment. Operators will receive this uplift in the form of a double payment at the end of the current financial year, subject to compliance with the terms and conditions of the scheme.
The remaining funding will be made available to LTAs, further communication will be sent in due course.
Future funding and service registrations
The BRG scheme will run until the end of the current financial year, and no further funding has yet been agreed past this date with HM Treasury.
The Department has been in close contact with sector representatives, including CPT, that have emphasised the need for continued support beyond April 2022. Officials are continuing to engage with the sector to understand the implications of no further funding and are working to address uncertainty.
